The Birchwood Neighborhood is compromised of three additions to the city of Little Rock. The Birchwood Subdivision, the West Highlands Subdivision and the Markham Pines Subdivision.

According to records from the Pulaski County Assessor's Office, one of the first homes in the neighborhood was built in 1952.
The majority of homes in the Birchwood and West Highland Subdivisions were built in the 1960's through the early 1970's. Winrock Homes developed Markham Pines beginning in the early 1970's through around 1975.
